An Interview With: RAEGAN

Theater-pop princess RAEGAN chats with us about her “RAEGAN CORE”-era and her background in musical theater, and celebrates the release of her newest single “Crying is a Girl’s Best Friend”.

RAEGAN calls “Crying is a Girl’s Best Friend” her “Disney princess moment—it’s about realizing that after every heartbreak, every rejection, every night spent feeling abandoned, you still have yourself. There’s comfort in that. Crying becomes less about sadness and more about coming home to yourself. I wanted it to feel like the emotional climax of a musical. The moment where everything breaks open and somehow becomes beautiful.

Hi Raegan! can you tell our readers more about your music?

Hiiii yes of course, my music is a style I like to call “Musical Theatre Pop” also known as “RAEGAN CORE”. It’s a blend of classic pop mixed with theatrical storytelling and musicality. It’s like pop music for showgirls heheh.

Your single “Raegan Core” really exemplifies that—how did the song come together, and where does it fit into your EP?

Thank you so much!!! It’s actually really funny because I completely just made RAEGAN CORE for fun. Never in a million years would I have predicted the audience reaction to this song. It was really just a campy theme song for myself and an embodiment of what the EP is to me. It is the title track to my upcoming project and completely sets the scene thematically and sonically for the world I’ve created.

What drew you to making music professionally?

I grew up in musical theatre and have sung my whole life. I always knew I wanted to be a performer, but when I was in late midschool/ early highschool I began to write my own music to express myself and find ways of communicating my thoughts and emotions in ways that my words couldn’t. Ever since then, I knew that this is what I wanted to do forever, because it feels like my soul calling.

Who is your dream collaborator, and why?

I’d say that right now my dream collaborator would be RAYE. I would love to make a song with her because I feel like we both, in our own ways, have such theatrical references in our version of pop music. It would be so cool to hear our two styles blend together. Plus, I just loveeee her music so much.

Where can fans see you and hear your latest music?

You can find me anywhere on social media under @raegancomplex and stream my music on any platform under RAEGAN.
