Essentials: “THERA” – Beauweiss and OnlyTheNext

Underground “Beaucore” producer Beauweiss’ latest collaboration with rising Ukrainian musician OnlyTheNext is an exhilarating, aural attack of the senses—perfect for putting on and thrashing around to.

Named after the Greek volcano whose last eruption was the largest witnessed by mankind, “Thera” features hammering kick drums, distorted snippets of rousing vocal samples, and juxtaposing musical textures. The tune is a stunning combination of production styles from two upcoming artists stationed far across the globe from each other.

No one does “Beaucore” quite like LA-based hardcore producer Beau Weiss, aka Beauweiss. Within the last year, his thrilling modern take on the uptempo hardcore sound has garnered attention from esteemed producers of the likes of Baauer, Alison Wonderland, Lunice, and Mura Masa. The Seattle native has recently released projects with electronic music producers RamonPang, Twonski, and Pozy and is gearing up to release his debut EP later this year.

At the time of this writing, Beauweiss posted this message on Instagram:
As excited as I am that we are releasing this track it comes with great sadness that my collaborator and friend, David “OnlyTheNext” is currently going through the unimaginable in Ukraine right now… Last we spoke was about three days ago to check in with him and to see if he’s even comfortable releasing music right now. His response was ‘Realeasing music right now is the best thing I can do.’ So with that, we give you ‘THERA.’

Hailing from Kyiv, Ukraine, David aka OnlyTheNext is a rising talent that continues to delight his fanbase with surprise collaborations with producers from across the underground electronic scene. What’s most impressive about the Ukrainian producer is his refined, evocative production style. Remixes like “Forbidden Love” and “Thin Sand” stand out for their texturally rich sound design and a careful arrangement of percussive elements. OnlyTheNext’s next forays into music are unknown. The promising artist has previously stated he doesn’t believe in genres and with only a few—though, well-received—published works having been released within the last year, OnlyTheNext is one producer to keep on your radar.
