Jamie XX appeared on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio1 show last night for a short interview and live performance from his debut solo LP, In Colour.
The renowned British producer and DJ collaborated with Warpaint’s drummer, Stella Mozgawa, as well as post-rock and legendary electronic musician, Four Tet — in addition to longtime collaborators Romy and Oliver, bandmates from The xx, for this special live set on Annie’s weekly show.
“We start again in the studio tomorrow, up until Christmas,” Jamie replied when Annie asks about new xx material at 1:34:20. “It’s going well and we’re just enjoying it.”
Oliver confirmed with a silent nod that the collective will come out with “new stuff” next year, as termed by Annie, marking the first new material from The xx since their 2013 full-length, Coexist. In the meanwhile, Ollie and Romy have jokingly referred to themselves as the “Kelly and Michelle” to “Jamie’s Beyoncé,” with the success of his solo effort — but fear not, longtime fans: new music from The xx in 2016 confirmed by the band themselves.
