Sound of 2014: Part One

A new year and a whole host of new music. In this week long series, a selection of PressPlay writers give you a run down of their recommendations for 2014.

A new year and a whole host of new music. In this week long series, a selection of PressPlay writers give you a run down of their recommendations for 2014. The first recommendation for PressPlay’s Sound of 2014 is afrobeat/hip hop trio, Weray ENT.

Paving the way for afrobeats in the UK, AWhy-O, Obi Ten and Gogo have already been nominated for a BEFFTA for Best UK Afrobeats Act and been guests on DJ Edu’s flagship afrobeats radio show, Destination Africa, on BBC Radio 1Xtra. True to their name (‘weray’ is Yoruba for crazy), Weray ENT are high energy and innovative artists, producing bangers such as ‘ChingChangWallah’, ‘Masquerade’ and ‘Skankulu’. Given the rise of Fuse ODG in the UK music scene, we can only hope that 2014 will give rise to afrobeats in the UK, and to the talents of Weray ENT.
