A new year and a whole host of new music. In this week long series, a selection of PressPlay writers give you a run down of their recommendation for 2014.The fourth recommendation for PressPlay’s Sound of 2014 is Australian singer-songwriter, Vance Joy.
Vance Joy, also known as James Keogh, grew up and studied in Melbourne, where he cut his teeth playing open mic nights in the city. Last year he signed a five-album deal with American record label Atlantic Records, largely thanks to his breakthrough song Riptide. This song features on Vance Joy’s debut EP God Loves You When You’re Dancing, which was released on iTunes early last year. It was also chosen as ST.ART Music’s DailyDose on 19th January. More recently it was voted number one on the Triple J Hottest 100, beating Royals by Lorde to the top spot.
Later this month Vance Joy will embark on a six date European tour, spanning five countries. His first show takes place in London later this month, on 11th February.
