Get to know Los Angeles-based producer and DJ Alexa Perl—the house music aficionado just dropped singles “All The Ladies” with label Rhythm Avenue and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” with Revival Records.
Hi Alexa, so great to be chatting with you! We’re loving your new single “All The Ladies”—where did the inspiration for the track stem from?
Hi! Thanks so much, so glad you love the track! I’ve been on a production streak of Y2K inspired house tracks for quite some time, pretty much since I started releasing my music other than a few tracks here and there. I’ve always loved Destiny’s Child, I have another track I released earlier in the year that is a latin house version of ‘Say My Name’, so it sort of just came to me hearing how high energy the vocal was in the chorus of Independent Woman. I’ve also really been wanting to incorporate deeper bass to my tracks, so it really came together seamlessly.
When did you know you wanted to pursue DJing and music production?
I knew I wanted to pursue DJing after I lived in Barcelona for 4 months – I couldn’t come back to the States without bringing the magic and soul that house music brought to me all over Europe, whether in a club, a taxi, or even a coffee shop. I started DJing very causally to friends and family, and it just started to grow from there. Before I knew it, I met incredible people in the industry who believed in me and helped me jump start the production side of the business and it’s taken my career to a whole new level.

What genres do you gravitate towards, and why?
I grew up listening to Gospel House music, so I’ve always gravitated towards that. I also love disco, soul, and pop – the energy that those genres bring, the love, the nostalgia, and the feeling of wanting to just get up and dance is what makes me just love them so much. However, being a house head makes me feel like I appreciate all kinds of music and genres. I listen to a lot of jazz and R&B in my free time in the background as it relaxes me and helps me focus.
Who are your biggest influences as an artist?
There are too many to even name, but the ones that come from the top of head are the Shapeshifters, Mousse T, Soul Avengers, Heidi Lawden, Folamour, Mr. Belt & Wezol, Suze ijo, Sophie Lloyd and Milk & Sugar.

With the release of “All The Ladies”, are you playing the track out at any shows this summer?
I’ve been playing it all over, and I am loving seeing others play it too. I just dropped ‘All The Ladies’ at a Peppermint Jam party in Hannover Germany, and next up in Italy. After that I’ll be spending time in Los Angeles dropping into spots throughout the city, so please be on the lookout!
What can fans expect from you next?
I have so many exciting tracks in the queue, starting with my remix to Revival Records ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ which just dropped! Followed by tracks that will continue to be released every few weeks. Can’t wait!
