US DJ Gusted has returned with “You Spin Me Round”, a modern take on an 80s classic that is hand-crafted to get feet moving. 

At 21 years old, the Boulder, Colorado-based has a lot to look forward to in his burgeoning career, but in a moment of creative stagnation, it was looking backwards to Dead or Alive’s 1985 hit single “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” that brought new clarity to Danny Dickmann, aka Gusted. 

“This track was crafted during a period of creative stagnation when it seemed like nothing was clicking,” Gusted said, continuing: “I made the remix without overthinking it, simply sending it around, and to my surprise, it resonated with people.” 

“It reaffirms that my best tracks emerge when I’m in a carefree, exploratory state of mind, not fixated on the final outcome.”

On the choice of remix itself, Gusted explains: “The original Dead or Alive song was on my first little iPod. I remember listening to it countless times, as I had only a few songs downloaded.“

Officially authorised by Dead or Alive’s estate, Gusted’s take on the classic synth-pop track is a stomping, dancefloor-ready techno rendition.

The remix is at times stripped back and skeletal, little more than percussion and vocals, and other times lavished with synths and cavernous echoes, but throughout it never drops the breakneck pace that is sure to endear it to dancefloors globally. 

With his creative rut firmly behind him, Gusted, who has already collaborated with iconic DJ deadmau5’ Testpilot alias, and is signed to deadmau5’s Seven20 management company, is primed for a strong 2024, with the release of “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” primed to send the Polydor Records signee into the new year right.
