“Club Action, get down on the floor!” clubaction—the dynamic force whose name is derived from the 2008 electro-hip-hop hit on Shunda K & Jewel B‘s debut LP, “Futuristically speaking…Never Be Afraid“—continues to captivate dancefloors from across the Bay Area to Los Angeles.
The Academy of DJs graduate has experienced a meteoric rise in the past year, marked by the launch of GOOD Neighbors (formerly known as “Sunday Spins”), an inaugural audio-visual event for heds, and a memorable performance opening for Fred again.. at the sold-out Shrine Auditorium.
DJs Swisha, Starrza, Somasounds, and clubaction took over over DTLA’s The Stowaway for a New Year’s Eve Eve celebration—a fitting culmination for the 25-year-old DJ’s remarkable year, surrounded by her peers, friends and supporters.
A classically-trained pianist, violinist and orchestra-aficionado born in San Bernardino/Inland Empire, the selector has been immersed in a world of music and its artistry since the early aughts. Since completing her training at the Academy of DJs in February, she’s had the privilege of meeting and sharing the stage with some of her musical heroes, an experience she deeply appreciates.
Among her inspirations are Skrillex—a longtime influence since middle school—Fred again.., ISOxo, and knock2. While appreciating their versatility, clubaction doesn’t quite replicate their styles when it comes to her live performances; instead, she says she values their ability to bring a unique flavor to the scene, both musically and sartorially. “In terms of music selection, I don’t really play what these guys play. I love that they bring something different to the scene, their music and the way they dress is a big inspiration.”
Her influences are internationally renowned producer-DJs. When asked about the pressure DJs oft feel to delve into the production realm, clubaction says she’s reluctant to venture into it. For her, the joy lies in curating an atmosphere on the dance floor. “There is this pressure for DJs to also go into production,” she says. “I’ve had a lot of people ask me, are you going to start [producing]? And I don’t know. Right now, I don’t feel inclined to. I just want to keep bringing the vibes.”

The value of DJing is often debated. While some assert that the value of it lies in possessing taste and the ability to gauge an audience in real-time, this perspective is often overlooked by producers confined to their bedroom studios. On the flip side, not everyone possesses the ability to create music that resonates with a broad audience. Skillful producers, in fact, tend to exhibit good taste, which may seamlessly extend into the realm of DJing, essentially then transforming them into the apt ‘producer-DJ.’ What remains undisputed is that mastering both the art of DJing and music production demands a substantial amount of experience and skill.
One of the highlights in the clubaction’s journey this year was being selected to support standout electronic dance music producer-selector Fred again… in his final touring show in Los Angeles earlier this fall. Having attended Fred’s Halloween show, the DJ was awe-struck. “I swear that show genuinely altered my brain chemistry,” she says. “Then, I saw him post a Google form on his story. He was literally taking submissions from artists to play for him.” She submitted her latest Sunday Spins set and to her surprise, the DJ received a missed FaceTime call from an international number later that day. The rest, as they say, is history.
Fred’s team, both across the pond in the UK and the US, reviewed thousands of submissions, making clubaction’s selection feel like a dream come true. “His manager told me later backstage when I asked that they reviewed thousands of submissions. Thousands. What are the odds they choose me? It still feels like a dream—a crazy, insane dream…a once in a million type of thing.”
Performing to a sold-out crowd at the Shrine, she delivered a diverse set, showcasing her versatility across the dance music spectrum—from danceable edits to reverberating baile funk.
Reflecting on the experience, clubaction remains humble and grateful for every opportunity to perform. Despite reservations about fame, she acknowledges the irony of continuously receiving exciting opportunities. “I was recently telling my friends this, that I’m not really sure if I want to be famous, I don’t like being perceived like that. And then all of these opportunities keep happening, it’s pretty funny. We’ll just have to see what happens.”
Her current focus is on playing selective gigs that align with her creative vision, a shift facilitated by GOOD Neighbors. “With Good Neighbors, I can be more selective with the gigs I play, play what I want, and not feel like I’m compromising my creativity and getting burned out,” she says. With a busy schedule playing parties almost every weekend, she continues to evolve her sound, staying true to her creative instincts and relishing the journey ahead.
“Lately, I feel like my vibe is leaning toward DJs like Anastazja and Andre Power. I love what they’re doing,” she notes. As clubaction navigates the intersection of artistry and acclaim, her story is one of passion for community, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to bringing vibrant energy and sounds to the dancefloor.
