Essentials: “Recollections” – D-CNTR

With “Recollections”, Scottish progressive metalcore outfit D-CNTR make a stomping statement of intent.

D-CNTR (pronounced ‘dissenter’) emerge from the fog at the beginning of “Recollections”. As spindly guitar melodies thread themselves through the track on a knife edge, the tension builds before the lead guitar blazes a trail through the mix.

The Glasgow group’s debut single, “Recollections” is as much a showcase of the bandmembers flexing their sonic muscles as it is an introduction to a group that have achieved a polish to their sound that many take years to refine. By the time the chorus roars into life, the track has already gripped you completely as vocalist Alexander Giannakos takes the listener on a poetic search for peace.

The duo of guitarists display equal measures of intricate instrumental work and brutal, blunt force. The rhythm’s are measured and controlled, the band is not complex for complexities sake. Rather, the song and its construction is allowed to speak for itself.

An accomplished live act already, D-CNTR are proving their potential as an up-and-comer in the prog-metal space.
