Saint Audio Mixes #054: HRNA

Los Angeles-based producer and DJ HRNA is revitalizing the golden age of SoundCloud-era beats through his own brand of trap that balances high-energy modern dance music with a sense of effortless cowboy cool. The “New Era Vaquero” is integrating that devil-may-care confidence into his music, which fluctuates from filthy bass to melodic, emotional melodies. In our first guest mix of 2023, HRNA shares some unreleased songs and unpacks his story with us. Listen to the mix below, and read on for our conversation with the enigmatic rising star.

Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.

Hi, it’s HRNA. Pronounced huh-or-nah. I am a queer trap artist currently based out of Los Angeles. I love to incorporate aspects of different genres into my music as well as pull inspiration from older styles of trap and put a new spin on it to create my sound. I have been involved with music to some extent my entire life and began producing a few years back after I started getting into EDM. Nothing makes me happier than creating and I think that’s why I fell in love with making music because whether it be writing a song or putting together a set, I love bringing things to life.

What are you trying to showcase in this mix?

I wanted to give y’all an idea of the vibe behind the HRNA project by putting together a high-energy mix of some IDs and some insane songs by some of my favorite producers and friends.

How do you approach the creative process?

I think for me what works best is to not think about the process too much. I try to set some time aside almost every day to work on music. I kind of just go into Ableton with an open mind and kind of let my mind wander wherever it pleases. Some of my favorite ideas have come to life because of happy accidents. I also try not to put too much pressure on myself. Sometimes the inspiration isn’t there and that’s okay too. I just go with the flow.

What should we expect from you this year?

LOTS MORE NEW MUSIC 🙂

Where can we hear from you?

I’m on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, SoundCloud, and Spotify.
