dj premium timeflex is about to be your new favorite producer—tune into the eclectic, genre-jumping mix from the Netherlands-based artist.
Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
My name is Oscar, I’m from Amsterdam and I go by dj premium timeflex. I love food, cooking, filming things on my old school Sony Handycam, MUSIC, DJing (of course) and I recently skated again for the first time in almost 10 years. I can still ollie and even landed three shove-its!
What are you trying to showcase in this mix?
I started producing and DJing under the name “dj premium timeflex” to just have as much fun with it as I possibly can and to try to eliminate the stress I was making myself feel. So “what can you expect from this mix”—a little bit of everything! I basically tried to show all directions I could go if I were to play an all night set but then I crammed it into half an hour! There are also some demos I made in the past year in there as well.
How do you approach the creative process?
I start with nothing most of the time, sometimes I already have a sample I want to flip or a song I want to remix, but even in those cases I never really know what direction I’m gonna go in. I let what I’m doing in the moment inspire what happens next. If I don’t have anything I like after an hour I start over, I might use some elements I used before and try to take it in a new direction but sometimes I just start a whole new thing. My goal when I’m creating is to make myself happy.
What should we expect from you this year?
I don’t have big things planned, but I really want to play in clubs in Amsterdam when they open back up so I’m trying to manifest that! I’m also slowly working on a sample pack that I want to drop this year and I want to drop an EP or mixtape of edits somewhere in the fall. I also want to do some of my own vocals one day.
Where can we hear from you?
My SoundCloud (that I should put more stuff on) is dj premium timeflex, I’m also on Audius as @timeflex and on Bandcamp at djpremiumtimeflex.bandcamp.com.
