Saint Audio Mixes #044: àlune

àlune joins us for our 44th guest mix with a selection of of chill indie and soul-inspired tunes. Read more about the producer and singer in our interview, and make sure to give the mix a spin.

Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.

Hi, so I’m a 19 year old producer and singer! Primarily make beats but occasionally, I’ll do vocals too. Growing up, I’ve lived in many different cities, including Seattle, New York City, and the Bay Area (we moved around quite a bit there), but I recently moved to the east coast for college. I’m also a visual artist, as generally I enjoy creative endeavors.

When did you get started making music?

Hmm, around 2016 or 2017. I originally did it as a joke, and eventually I found out how to use GarageBand, where I started taking it a little more seriously. It wasn’t until I heard music by Ravyn Lenae and Monte Booker, though, that I found an actual direction.

Since then, I don’t use GarageBand anymore haha. I’ve been pretty influenced by neo-soul music, even though that’s not the type of music I make, so listening to a lot of Erykah Badu, Musiq Soulchild, and D’Angelo have also affected my sound quite a bit, since I’ve started.

What accomplishments are you most proud of, and why?

Well, I have a couple records with IAMDDB coming out at some point, which I’m pretty excited about. I’ve also gotten to know Father a bit, which is crazy to me, because when I just started, he was someone I never dreamed of actually talking to. Also, just learning how to make music that sounds like what I enjoy is really crazy, because it’s taken a while to get to this point.

How do you approach the creative process?

Generally, I’m pretty processed based, as I’ve heard a lot of producers already know what they’re going for before they start the beat, but I normally just play some chords and see where the beat takes me. Normally, I just try things out and if they sound good, I’ll keep it. There are times when I try to deviate from this process, if I’m trying to make something different than I usually do. Normally, I’m pretty unfiltered with what I make, so I rarely spend time mixing or heavily editing any songs once they’re generally finished.

What should we expect from you this year?

In terms of grand plans, I don’t have anything crazy planned, but I’m planning on making more process videos, as well as expand to more music platforms. I’m always trying to improve, so there’s that too. Maybe the IAMDDB records will be released this year.

Where can we hear from you?

My name on SoundCloud is àlune, which is where most of my music is! My Spotify is aluneji, which also has some of my songs on it.
