PawPaw Rod’s debut single “HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS” gives us a promising look at the up-and-coming LA newcomer. Released on GODMODE, an artist development group known for their work with JPEGMAFIA, the song is a part of GODMODE’s HOT SAUCE series. The series is aimed at shining a spotlight onto genre-blending sounds, and this song certainly plays that part. In blending a funky instrumental with elements of Indie, rap and more it almost feels like an R&B spin on Modest Mouse. The indelibly catchy rhythm and infectious harmonies just made for singing along means this song will be staying in my playlists for the foreseeable future.
