Italian singer LITA shares her own take on a classic Italian folk song in “Bionda”. Following up on her previous release “Ciao Ciao”, “Bionda” is an emotional story through a modernized folk sound. In the song, LITA tells the story of a girl from the neighborhood Trastevere in Rome as she struggles with addiction. Utilizing traditional folk storytelling, LITA crafts this tragic tale deftly with her passionate voice.
About the song, LITA shares that “Bionda” è una canzone fondamentale per me. Quando ero piccola la mia nonna ci cantava le canzoni e le filastrocche della sua infanzia. Una di queste era “tutti mi chiaman Mario”, una canzone folk dei tempi della prima guerra mondiale.
“Bionda” è stato il primo pezzo che ho scritto in Italiano da quando mi sono trasferita in America, il primo pezzo che mi ha riconesso alle mie radici. È una storia che sentivo di dover raccontare e che mi ha riportata tra i vicoli e le piazze di Trastevere. L’ho scritta con il mio compagno Sebastian Torres che è il produttore esecutivo del mio progetto. – LITA
[Translation:] Bionda is a super important song to me. When I was little, my grandma would always sing us songs from her childhood. One of them was “tutti mi chiaman Mario”, a folk song from World War I.
“Bionda” is the first song I wrote in Italian since I moved to the States, the first song that made me feel reconnected to my roots. It’s a story I needed to tell and one that brought me back to the streets of Trastevere. I wrote it with Sebastian Torres, the executive producer on my project. – LITA
