Cam Avery is a talented musician and singer, reminiscent of early Rex Orange County and Mac DeMarco. In person, he’s friendly and a bit quiet, and his performance is always intimate as he strums his guitar and croons into a mic. His music is simple, allowing for his voice and lyrics to be the power behind is work. He is a relaxed balance of alternative funk and LA surf rock with a splash of bedroom guitar. Cam’s latest release “Trouble” tells the story of reckless decision-making as a young adult struggling with vices at the dawn of a young romance. The lyrics are deep and get a bit serious, yet the contrast with the upbeat strum of his guitar makes it feel like we’re being sung to under the shade of a tree on a quiet and sunny day. The summer isn’t always sunshine and butterflies, we can also have our moments of struggle and pain, and Cam Avery reminds us that these moments of trouble are opportunities for growth and optimism.
