After the success of his EP Afterimage and breakthrough track “Frustrated,” R.LUM.R returns with a new single, “How This Feels,” from his upcoming debut album via Island Records.
This track aches with emotion; R.LUM.R sets heartfelt lyrics begging for the truth against a dark R&B melody, which is reminiscent of The Weeknd’s Trilogy. The music video perfectly portrays the distance and pain encapsulated in the song with close up shots of the singer failing to hide emotion through his facial expressions. These scenes enhance the raw emotion of the song, adding even more depth to the track. For me, the most unexpected and impressive element was the falsetto in the chorus, especially near the end of the song. To end such a vulnerable track with a gut-wrenching riff like that proves that this next chapter of R.LUM.R’s career will be strong and genuine.
