A bewildering show, geniusly put together. Scratcha DVA of Allyallrecords spent a week choosing legendary club tracks to explore and broadcasted their DNA samples on this educational show.
The most surprising samples turn up where you least expect to hear them. No matter the genre or age, different sounds were covered, taking it back to as far as 40 years of influence and sampling.
It wasn’t just music covered on the show, DVA also researched vocal samples from films, computer games and famously heard drum patterns to find their true origin.
As DVA explains throughout the show “something is always from something and nothing is always from nothing.”
Expect to hear sampled Barry White, Mark Pritchard, and Melba Moore.
Special guest Ethan of WhoSampled also joined the show to show off his sampling knowledge, discuss WhoSampled and share who the most sampled musician was.
We’re hoping a second instalment of this special show will come in the near future. Listen back below.
