ICYMI: “How U Want It (Dotcrawl Remix)” – Machinedrum

Just twelve days after its initial release, Dotcrawl (New York’s turntablist YoVinyl and Thijs de Vlieger from Noisia) delivered a re-imagination of Rochelle Jordan’s “How U Want It”. The original having been produced by North-Carolina-bred and Berlin-Kreuzberg-based Travis Stewart, better known as Machinedrum, it was already an incredibly good song and Dotcrawl had some big shoes to fill. As expected, this proved not to be a problem. Their version of the record goes along the same lines as the original—Rochelle Jordan’s voice flows perfectly on top of both beats, yet its synth line in the first part gives it a very different groove from Machinedrum’s bouncy chord stabs. The second part of Dotcrawl’s remix, however, should have you bouncing up and down your bedroom as does the original’s finale. Both are, no doubt, records to keep.
