Netflix’s newest addition, The Get Down, sounds like a music lover’s fever dream – a Baz Luhrmann directed period show about the budding roots of hip hop at the end of the disco era. Nas is an executive producer. Oh, and Grandmaster Flash is an associate producer. INCREDIBLE, RIGHT?
Netflix describes the series as “a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to a new art form. Set in New York in 1977, this music-driven drama series chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the last days of disco -– told through the lives, music, art and dance of the South Bronx kids who would change the world forever.”
The soundtrack features original songs from ZAYN, Teddy Pendergrass, Miguel, Janelle Monae, Nas, and other heavy-hitters, spanning the range of disco, soul, and hip hop. Stream the soundtrack on Apple Music, and watch the first six episodes of The Get Down on Netflix today.
