Essentials: “Open Fire” – Slumberjack ft. Daniel Johns

Slumberjack have, appropriately, remained sleeper favorites of mine since the Australian duo first grabbed my attention a little more than a year ago with a trap sound that was unlike anyone else’s at the oversaturated time.  True to their talents, they’ve grown beyond genre definition, crafting a lush and exciting soundscape with “Open Fire.”

Daniel Johns‘ vocals not only sit perfectly on the beat, but also immerse into the production itself, for a well-rounded and engrossing listening experience that tickles your senses in the best way. I nearly missed this one when it dropped two weeks back, but low-key repeat listens have infiltrated my days and here we are. The Slumberjack boys have internet clout in droves, and it’s only a matter of time before they crack into larger worlds with production output like this.

If you need an early Summer adventure theme song, this might well be it. You can grab + stream “Open Fire,” out now on Mad Decent, on all digital retailers by clicking here. You can follow Slumberjack on Soundcloud here.
