Essentials: “Be Alright” – Ariana Grande

High off the success of the impression-filled hosting job at Saturday Night LiveAriana Grande is slowly regaining the hearts of America with her quirkiness and bubbly personality displayed all through her time on the show. The same characteristics can frequently be seen in her music. Just around this time last year, producer/feline-enthusiast friendCashmere Cat, teamed up on “Adore“, showcasing their styles perfectly  complement each other like Phil and Eva. This time around it sounds like Ari has found another love, producer-wise, for the sweet, reassuring “Be Alright“.

Lightly wavering from my unquestionable, consistent, kind-of-concerning (or slightly-embarrassing, take your pick) loyalty to the pop princess, it can’t be helped that young gun producer, Mura Masa‘s “Firefly” constantly resonates throughout “Be Alright”. The songs share similar marimba-intros, voice distortions, snap and synths, even emotions engrained in the voices and lyrics of Grande and NAO. However,”Be Alright” evokes more lighthearted feelings flaunted by Ari and her backup voguers her SNL performance. Listen and compare the two tracks below.
