Essentials: waves – Miguel (Tame Impala Remix)

Not skimping on the Joshua Tree version, which displays a warm, stripped-down version of “waves” with Miguel‘s vocals soaring through the preview, but the upcoming Rogue Waves remixes due out tomorrow features some of the best in their collective genres today. Travis $cott, Hip-hop’s hot new artist-producer and supposed Rihanna-suitor; Kacey Musgraves, country music’s Grammy-winning queen of controversy; and RAC, the indie-rock/electronic tastemaker producing all those tracks you Shazam on TV commercials. Tame Impala can also stand tall among the bunch. The psychedelic sons of Australia, fronted by Kevin Parker, continue to breath life into modern day rock music and their new “waves” remix.

Listen to the track’s premiere via Apple Music’s Beats 1 show, hosted by Zane Lowe.

Parker, the mastermind behind most of Tame Impala’s work and production, reimagined the song very similar to their last studio album Currents. The remix sports all the disorientating, intoxicating, and flanging synths from Tame Impala’s sound while keeping Miguel’s original groove, but adding more of a bass presence and lead guitar riff fun. Tame Impala takes the post-surf session original off the beach, and on a sunny scenic coastal drive.

Download or stream Tame Impala and elite company on Rogue Waves EP on February 26th.
