Hey R3ll! So excited about this Press Play mix. What were your inspirations when creating it?
What’s going on! My inspiration for this mix was to take the listener into what I’m currently listening to and to give them something to enjoy and dance to. Pretty simple. I was in my DJ mode so I just let it happen.
You’ve been DJing for years, becoming a mainstay of the New Jersey club scene. Do you feel that DJing has a symbiotic relationship with producing? When you’re making or listening to tracks, are you thinking about how they’ll play out in your next set?
DJing and producing to me go hand in hand. As a DJ you have to keep the dance-floor moving! So when I’m producing a track I have to be able to dance to it. If I personally don’t feel the urge to dance, I’m not putting the record out nor am I going to include it in my live set. I’m always thinking about dancing and if others will dance to the tracks I’m producing or playing.
When you’re producing, how do you circumvent the “trendy” stereotype that’s often attached to club music? Do you feel that some club music genres have potentially more longevity than others?
My personal opinion on “trendy” doesn’t exist because I don’t follow or obey them. I like to do my own thing and experiment. I think that’s the best thing you can do. It allows you to be BOLD and not become predictable because once that happens you are replaceable. As far as club music genres, yes they ALL have the highest potentially for longevity. Like I said experimenting and having creativity thoughts to forward think anything is possible.
What’s the number one thing you want our readers to know about you and your music?
The number one thing I personally want the readers to know is to stay positive. All things are possible! I never would have thought I would be where I am now. I’m having the time of my life and I have club music and a great support system to thank. Also, I have an AMAZING NEW EP and some exciting collaborations on the way. Look for them top of next year.
