One of several covers that made waves this week, this might just be the most appropriate early-Fall track we could possibly ask for.
Bringing his signature, ever-minimalistic melancholy to the Simon and Garfunkel classic, James Blake bends “The Sound Of Silence” to his utter will. The result is not only a lovely rendition of “one of those songs you don’t cover,” but one that stands the timeless metric of such a cover — it entirely stands on its own as an experience separate from the original. We know we’re a few days late on this one (we were relaunching the site, what do you want from us), but it absolutely bears replaying.
The track was premiered on Blake’s BBC Radio 1 Residency show, and no details have been given about the possibility of a release. James Blake’s third studio album, Radio Silence, was announced in January on the same program and is rumored to feature Kanye West and Bon Iver — it too is pending a confirmed release date.
